Herb Cordero Santos GLNG Scholarship

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Santos GLNG have signed a 5-year agreement for a $5,000 per annum scholarship with Central Queensland University Gladstone in memory of our late colleague Herb Cordero who sadly lost his battle with cancer in mid-2022.

Herb was a well-respected Control Room Team Leader and Engineer, who was an integral part of moulding and developing the Santos GLNG Team on Curtis Island.

The university scholarship honours Herb who, as a true mentor with a passion for life-long learning and personal and professional growth, always encouraged others to achieve their goals.

To be eligible for the scholarship, CQUniversity Gladstone students must be studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a STEM or business disciplines that align with Santos GLNG Curtis Island and/or Brisbane-based roles including:

  • Engineering - Operations

  • Marketing – Marketing/ Community Relations

  • Accounting - Finance

  • Human Resource Management – HR

  • Information Systems & Technology - IS

  • Digital Media – Community/ Communications

  • Law - Legal/ Secretariat

  • Environmental Science – Laboratory/ Environment

A Santos GLNG selection panel, comprised of Curtis Island leadership and representatives from Herb’s closest work colleagues, will select the annual scholarship recipient from a CQU shortlist that best represents Herb’s leadership and integrity, and his incredible work ethic.

Santos GLNG will offer work placement/experience opportunities for the selected scholars, and the successful applicant will have an opportunity to be hosted by Santos GLNG either on site at Curtis Island, or in our Brisbane office for a short-term work experience throughout their scholarship year.

Herb was an exemplar leader who lived the Santos GLNG values of:

  • Work as one team

  • Always safe

  • Act with integrity

  • Be accountable

  • Pursue exceptional results

  • Build a better future

And we are proud to support this scholarship in his honour.
