Last month year 7-9 students from the Gladstone Region toured Santos GLNG’s Curtis Island LNG Facility as part of a Digital Challenge facilitated by Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA), the education arm of the Queensland Resources Council (QRC).
In the months leading up to the site tour, students from Tannum Sands State High School, Gladstone State High School, Calliope State High School and Chanel College, worked hard to develop a digital rendition of Santos GLNG’s LNG computer programs such as Minecraft and MIT’s Scratch. During their tour, the students had the opportunity to not only visit the facility’s central control administration building, warehouse, and workshop, including laboratory, but they also got to drive through the LNG Plant.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about LNG, applying STEM principles to real-world industrial scenarios, and learning more about STEM careers.
