Year 10 Students prepare for success with PREQIP

Choosing a career pathway in high school is no easy task but with the pre-vocational program Education Queensland Industry Partnership (PREQIP), the process is made a little easier. Indigenous Year 10 students from across four state schools in the Gladstone Region were taken on a facilitated tour around businesses and industry highlighting the range of career opportunities available on their doorstep. The term-long program takes some of the guess work out of the career decision process putting students in front of potential employers and trainers.

During November, Santos GLNG hosted the students on Curtis Island to showcase careers in the LNG industry. DSO personnel shared their career journeys and experiences from different work fronts including the Control Room, OTS, Collaboration Room, Workshop, Laboratory and Medical Centre. Production Manager, Akash Jayashankar warmly wrapped up the site tour and encouraged the students to follow their passions in life. It has been a pleasure of Santos GLNG to be a part of the 2022 program.

Upon completion of the one year program, students walk away with a first aid certificate, industry white card and contacts should they have further questions or decide to apply for an apprenticeship/traneeship or future job vacancies.

Pre-vocation programmes like PREQIP are a unique and an important opportunity for young adults. Santos GLNG along with Conoco Phillips APLNG and Shell QGC have funded the program for close to 10 years and together we looks forward to being a part of the 2023 program.
